This work aims at identifying the off-grid operation of a local energy community powered by a 220 kW small-scale hydropower plant in the center of Italy using either a battery energy storage system or a hydrogen one with the Calliope framework.

The two technologies addressing these challenges are (1) hydrogen and (2) battery storage systems. Recent advancements in both fields have improved efficiency, reduced costs, and increased storage capacity, making them increasingly viable options for balancing intermittent RE production.
